Parking at UMD
There are three different permit options available for students that
are specific to either on-or off-campus residents. Permit availability is limited and on a first requested, first served basis. Permits sell out every year and there is no guarantee a permit will be available for purchase. You can view a campus parking map and apply for parking permits at tps.d.umn.edu
Note: Permits become available August 1, 2024. Students that are enrolled in courses will be able to purchase on this date.
Riding the Bus:
the UPASS Program
With limited capacity for parking spaces on campus, riding the Duluth Transit Authority (DTA) bus is a smart choice. No parking hassles, just easy, city-wide DTA bus service to and from the UMD campus or anywhere in the Twin Ports with the swipe of your UMD U Card.
No need to have cash on hand. Students are automatically assessed a small fee each semester which provides unlimited rides. UMD students registered for six or more undergraduate credits may jump on the bus, swipe their U Card and ride! Those students who are not assessed the semester fee may also
opt in.
DTA buses are also equipped with
bike racks. This is especially helpful in Duluth with the large hills. There is no additional charge to transport a bike on a DTA bus. Bringing a bicycle to Duluth will allow you the freedom to explore the many miles of beautiful trails in our bike-friendly city.
Jefferson Lines: Going the Distance
Jefferson Bus Lines connects the UMD community to the Twin Cities, Iron Range, and Fargo. The Jefferson Lines pickup is on the UMD campus on Kirby Drive, near the Kirby Student Center South entrance. The Daily Departure bus leaves UMD each morning and stops at multiple locations along Inter- state 35. The bus leaves the Twin Cities for Duluth each morning and afternoon.
The best thing about Jefferson Lines is its affordability. One-way tickets from Duluth to the Twin Cities are as low as $31. Assistance with ticket purchasing is provided on campus at the Transportation & Parking Services office, just inside
the bus hub entrance, or online at
jeffersonlines.com.
BULLDOG TIP
Bus schedules can also be found on Bulldog Mobile in the Getting Around module.

SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION:
The Healthy Choice Transportation & Parking Services (TPS) in the bus hub, proudly supports UMD’s efforts toward creating a sustainable environment by providing programs motivated to reduce the amount of driving
to campus.
Like at most institutions, on-campus parking is limited. Students are encouraged to use alternative forms of transportation to travel to and from campus. Please think twice before deciding to bring a personal vehicle.
VIRTUAL ESCORTS
Rave Guardian is a free smart-phone app that provides University of Minnesota students, faculty and staff with access to Virtual Escorts and other helpful safety and security resources on campus.
