It may seem a little odd to say this in the midst of a pandemic, yet the evidence is striking that IBP is not just surviving - IBP is thriving. Thanks to our excellent faculty, trainees and staff, national and local measures of our collective successes abound. Here are some highlights:
• IBP’s national ranking is soaring. Based on NIH ranking data, IBP’s national prominence is on a steep upward trajectory (see Figure).
This is particularly notable in that while IBP continues its growth in tenure-track faculty recruiting, we are competing against departments
with much larger faculty, in some cases outnumbering us 4:1. With our commitment to continued growth, the future is bright for our continued national ascent in rankings - Hats off to thee IBP!
IBP is #1 in Dean’s medical school department metrics for FY20. IBP scored a perfect 100/100 points in
the annual Dean’s department metrics analysis. The metric highlights key pillars of our department – education and research. This is tangible evidence of the positive impact of IBP in the medical school – Hats off to thee IBP!
IBP welcomes three new outstanding faculty members! Central to our commitment to excellence and growth, IBP is pleased to welcome Dr. Julia Liu, coming from NIH with an outstanding research program focused on cardiac muscle metabolism and mitochondrial biology, Dr. Eric Bachelor, also from NIH and a card carrying “bottom to top” systems biologist featuring merging computational and biological approaches to biological complex processes, and Dr. Ryan Knigge, from the University of Missouri, bringing great acumen and experience to further enhance the anatomical education mission of the department – welcome aboard Julia, Eric and Ryan!

  Chair’s Vision Statement
Integrative Biology and Physiology
We are a dynamic and growing medical school basic science department that values excellence, innovation, diversity, inclusion and impact as cornerstones to biomedical research and education.
We aspire to be the leading research and education physiology program in the country.
Our research vision is focused on mechanistic studies of the cardiovascular system, including mus- cle, and in obesity, diabetes and metabolism. We expressly integrate new knowledge discoveries from genes and molecules to the whole organism, with impact and relevance to human health.
